Our History
The lands of North Carolina tell the stories of our past, contribute to our well-being now and, if well protected, provide the resources needed to cope with the challenges of the future.
For nearly three decades, we have worked alongside our partners, landowners and elected officials to conserve some of North Carolina’s most treasured lands. Our work along the Blue Ridge Parkway has protected more than 35,000 acres of wild and scenic areas of the state. We have helped build one of the strongest land conservation communities in the country. Together with local land trusts and other partners, we have advocated for and won significant public support for land protections.
Our Process
CTNC will continue to champion conservation success led by people. We will develop more inclusive conservation plans and actions that serve the communities impacted by our work and will continue to factor these potential impacts into our ongoing land conservation efforts from the Parkway to Princeville.
To ensure all people share in the benefits of healthy lands, we are committed to a process that finds even greater funding for land and water conservation, includes and serves more racially and socioeconomically diverse communities, factors the impacts of climate change into long-range plans and increasingly connects land conservation to the economic and social needs of all the people in our state.
