Land conservation provides benefits that promote individual and community resilience.
Stronger storms, increased rainfall and flood events, and periodic droughts are all part of our new normal. We have the opportunity to learn what strategies work to lessen the impacts and reduce future threats for individual communities. We are collaborating to develop innovative solutions across our state so everyone can become more resilient.
By permanently protecting the fragile lands along the Blue Ridge Parkway, we are safeguarding an ecologically significant wildlife migration corridor along the Eastern United States. The steps that CTNC and our allies are taking to conserve this corridor from development are both urgent and considered. Our goals: make our natural habitats and human communities more resilient.
A resilient community is one where people are meaningfully engaged and empowered, where leadership is responsive to community needs as defined by its residents, and where its people are able to respond to natural disasters by rebuilding or adapting in ways that make them stronger and more prepared for the future.
Our Process
CTNC will continue to champion conservation plans and actions that serve impacted communities and will continue to connect land conservation to the economic and social needs of all the people in our state.
A Proposed Solution:
By working with city planners, leaders in community development, educators, and local agriculture proponents, we can work across sectors to bring together dynamic leaders to build healthier and more resilient communities for all of North Carolina's people.
Conservation Trust for North Carolina provides service opportunities that empower North Carolinians to build resilience within their communities.
For more than a decade, our service programs have sought to connect youth and young adults to conservation through environmental education, disaster response, trail building and maintenance careers. By participating in service programs offered by CTNC and our partners, young people are able to be part of the movement to build resilient, just communities across North Carolina.
These programs establish a lifelong appreciation for our state’s natural and cultural resources and an understanding of the critical benefits that land and water conservation provides.
CTNC is proud to deliver quality service programs in collaboration with AmeriCorps, Conservation Legacy, and state and local community partners. Our programs offer paid positions to North Carolina’s youth and young adults while building pathways to conservation careers, creating opportunities to give back to local communities through service and volunteerism, and cultivating a commitment to being stewards of our land and water for years to come.
